Anthony Flynn
Dr. Flynn utilizes multiple evidence-based models, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy, motivational interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while emphasizing the empirically-supported relationship factors that under-grid and enhance the psychotherapy process (e.g., empathic accuracy, therapeutic alliance, Multicultural Orientation). Additionally, he places a particular focus on exploring the ways that intersecting systems influence clients’ experiences and challenges. Dr. Flynn aims to foster supportive relationships that help clients develop skills to meet their needs and respond to the diverse stressors of their contexts, including the structural impediments to wellness they face. Dr. Flynn’s clinical training has afforded him diverse opportunities, working with clients across ages 17 through 101; including college students, unhoused people, US Military Veterans, and LGBTQ+ communities. He has been engaged in supervised clinical practice since 2018 across outpatient psychotherapy, inpatient health psychology, trauma, substance use/medication-assisted treatment, gender-affirming care, and anxiety/depression. Dr. Flynn works clinically with the supervision of Dr. Enrique Gracian (PSY CA #33183) as he completes his final steps toward licensure. Outside of his work as a therapist, Dr. Flynn’s research, teaching, and consulting focus on physical and mental health disparities, professional ethics, and investigating the nuts-and-bolts of how psychotherapy works, including therapist-level factors that influence treatment outcomes (e.g., Facilitative Interpersonal Skills, Multicultural Orientation). He is a certified Emergency Medical Technician and a mutual aid organizer with ties to Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, and Madison, WI. Dr. Flynn enjoys travel, nature, riding his motorcycle, and spending time/sharing meals with his family (both biological and chosen).
