Carl Busch
As a clinical mental health counsellor, my diverse range of life and career experiences in the helping field have enriched my practice. My work has consistently focused on inclusive and diverse healthy communities, which are key tools we can use to achieve and maintain health and well-being. My extensive experience encompasses supporting individuals with chronic health conditions and disabilities (type 1 diabetes, amputation, cancer, organ failure, etc.), and mental health challenges (schizophrenia , borderline personality disorder, ADHD, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and more…), and from several different multicultural backgrounds, including ethnic, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities; street-involved and unhoused populations; as well as teenagers, young adults, and most recently, seniors. These experiences have facilitated my understanding that life can be exceptionally challenging, irrespective of one’s age or stage of life. This is particularly pronounced when we perceive ourselves as navigating difficulties alone, commonly leading to a loss of direction, a sense of being trapped, and a fear that things will never improve. Problems often arise from misinterpreting and maladapting to events and experiences of the world around us, which is especially true when triggered by internal and external factors that we perceive to be beyond our control. Given that many of the concerns raised during therapy are most effectively understood within the context of interpersonal relationships and societal structures (cultures, beliefs, practices, etc.), some of their most effective solutions dwell in nurturing connections to communities of individuals who support, advocate, learn, and celebrate with each other. Employing an integrative approach rooted in Adlerian psychology’s emphasis on holistic understanding to deliver the most comprehensive and effective therapy, I work to help clients feel seen, to gain insights into themselves and the world around them, and to apply this newfound self-awareness, knowledge, and improved coping strategies in real life. My integrative approach is backed using cognitive behavioral, structural, and feminist theories; person-centered and action-oriented methodologies, such as motivational interviewing; and mindfulness practices. I have completed coursework in a diverse range of counselling theories and skills, ethics, treatment planning, human sexuality, assessment and appraisal, crisis intervention and trauma, diagnosing maladaptive behaviours, human growth and development, psychopharmacology, couples and family counselling, multicultural counselling, group counselling, career counselling, addictions counselling, and more. I offer individual, couples, and family counselling to adolescents and adults, under supervision. I ensure clients retain complete control of the therapeutic process while collaborating with and guiding their work to process distressing events and experiences that hinder their ability to live their best lives. I recognize that finding healthcare professionals with whom you can develop a trusting therapeutic relationship may be challenging. This is why I demonstrate empathy, understanding, and unconditional positive regard to all clients, regardless of their reasons for seeking therapy. I emphasize honesty, encouragement, and collaboration to support clients on their journey towards good health and personal fulfillment. By choosing me as your counsellor, you are taking a significant step towards developing the awareness and skills necessary to address and overcome the complex obstacles and challenges that life presents, including trauma, depression, anxiety, sexual and gender identity issues, relationship difficulties, stress, career issues, and numerous other concerns you may be facing. I will meet you where you are at and support you in achieving your best, all tailored to your unique needs, circumstances, and goals. With guidance, everyone possesses the capacity to work through problems towards life-changing solutions I encourage you to take control by booking a consultation or appointment with me when you are ready to create change in your life.
