Since 2015, PA Carlos Gutierrez has been practicing family medicine serving a mostly Spanish-speaking, minoritized community in west Phoenix, Arizona. Carlos has also focused on serving a large LGBTQ+ community. He previously worked at Mayo Clinic specializing in PreOperative Medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Science at New Mexico State University, a Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Midwestern University-Glendale, and Doctor of Education in Health Professions at A.T. Still University. Carlos founded InclusiCare Medical in 2023 as a primary care center where employees, patients, and community members feel healthy and appreciated. Carlos is also an associate professor in the Department of PA Studies at the University of Pittsburgh and serves as its inaugural Vice Chair for Student Success. In this role, he supports learners of all programs as well as directs faculty development activities related to this area. He has a vested interest in assuring student success and student wellness. His academic specializations include adult learning, instructional techniques, curriculum design and evaluation, and qualitative research. His research interests are in the areas of postgraduate PA education and inclusive professional development of physician assistant educators. Gutiérrez started as adjunct faculty in the Physician Assistant Studies Hybrid Program in 2021 and is adjunct faculty for the Doctor of Education in Health Professions program at A.T. Still University. Currently, he is President-Elect of the Arizona State Association of Physician Assistant and has a passion to promote diversity in the PA profession.
