Catarina Durante Bergue Alves

Hi, I'm Catarina. I am a psychologist and advocate. I see therapy as a co-constructed space in which clients can re-connect with their emotions, curiosity, imagination, and radical self-love. I am my clients’ accomplice in change, and together we work to subvert harmful internalized messages, have compassion for our emotions, listen to the wisdom of our intuition, connect with kindness for ourselves, and discover agency. I intend not only to affirm my clients’ experiences, identities - but to collaboratively liberate: helping clients become author and actor in the process of dismantling internalized pain and oppressive systems. My work is rooted in deep listening, transparency, and present moment awareness. An important part of supporting my clients’ healing involves appreciating the complexity of human experience, and piecing together the emotional, physical, neurological, relational, cultural, and societal components that contribute to my clients’ present concerns. When making the decision to seek help, in whatever form, we can often feel vulnerable and bare. Taking that first step and engaging in the process of therapy can be incredibly challenging, and as a therapist I feel honored to be entrusted with this responsibility. My intention is to approach our work together with openness, care, and genuine curiosity.
