Chris Tompkins

He/Him

Chris Tompkins is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, life coach, TEDx speaker, and author of the best-selling book, Raising LGBTQ Allies: A Parent's Guide to Changing the Messages from the Playground. Chris is working under the license of Shane Bruce (LMFT#50773) at Shane Bruce Mental Health and Coaching. Chris has a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University with a specialization in LGBTQ Affirmative Psychology. He specializes in helping LGBTQ people and family members heal inner scripts to live more confident, happy, and actualized lives. As an LGBTQ Affirmative Therapist, Chris looks at each of his clients’ lives through an affirmative and humanistic lens. He sees heteronormativity, anti-LGBTQ bias, familia queerphobia, religious trauma, and the effects of unresolved internalized queerphobia as the problem and not the person. Prior to becoming a therapist, Chris taught social-emotional learning (SEL) throughout Southern California for six years at high schools, after school programs, the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Homeless Youth Shelter, and Los Angeles Central Juvenile Hall. In addition to being a therapist, Chris is a writer and public speaker. He gives workshops and presentations for colleges, conferences, and organizations across the U.S. on topics such as: anti-bullying, spirituality & religious trauma, mental health & LGBTQ populations, “inner advocacy,” and how to raise LGBTQ allies.
