Emily Modlin
Hi! I’m Emily (she/her), and I’m a licensed mental health therapist specializing in self-perception, anxiety, ADHD, autism, connection-based parenting, complex trauma, and religious trauma. After teaching elementary music and high school choir for 16 years, I became a therapist focused on helping people who want to know and understand themselves and their emotions better. The therapeutic relationship is one where we explore areas you have felt stuck or unseen with openness and compassion. My primary therapy modalities include Compassion-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy; however, tailoring the therapeutic structure to you as an individual is very important to me, and I welcome interest in diving deeper into a specific approach. My philosophy is person-centered, meaning that I believe you are the expert on what it is like to be you, and your own hopes and needs are what we build your therapy plan around. To further expand on some specific areas, I am invested in trauma-informed practices, particularly when processing current thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that tie back to earlier experiences. This can involve parts work, inner child work, and gentle exploration of complex-PTSD. For those who have had major shifts in their thinking, it is often beneficial to be able to discuss more abstract and philosophical concepts such as nihilism and existentialism. I also recognize the systems and institutions that affect mental health, and acknowledge that the context of our lives greatly influences the ways in which individual therapy can facilitate healing. As a queer, acespec person, I seek to support clients with queer identities in building self-trust, hope, community, and healing from harm. Please reach out for a free consultation if you'd like to ask questions to find out if I am the right therapist for you!
