Gracie Landes
I grew up with one parent who was bisexual, another who was biracial. The era my parents were born into rejected them both. I had an easier time, but is was still rough being their kid, not quite fitting in anywhere. I was sensitized to issues of gender, race, class and privilege from a very early age, and was determined to fight discrimination. My very first client in private practice was a member of a sexual minority who had really been through a lot just for being who they were, so, I am very motivated to be the best ally and supporter I can possibly be. I am trained, and inclined to work systemically, situating people and their challenges in a variety of contexts: relational, sexual, social, cultural, historical... I practice Solution Focused Brief Therapy, a method that uses questions to uncover people's hopes and dreams, what they want for themselves, discovering with them what it will take for them to get what they want, looking at different angles to find where they can find leverage and traction. The context of my life has brought me to do work I find very meaningful. I see myself as part of a long chain or web people who seek to address injustice, one client at a time.
