I’m John (he/him), a gay, cisgender male Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who is dedicated to providing deeply affirming, comprehensive mental health services tailored to the LGBTQ+ community and modern family dynamics. Recognizing that mental wellness thrives where lifestyle, identity, and biology meet, I look at the whole person rather than just checking off symptoms. Outside the office, my lived experience as a gay man, husband, and father keeps me grounded in the practical importance of holistic health, exercise, nutrition, and sleep. I have committed my career to ensuring that psychiatric care feels like an unhurried, thoughtful partnership rather than a brief medical transaction. With 15 years in clinical practice, my foundation is built upon deep expertise in high-acuity medical environments, including over a decade spent in critical care, emergency medicine, and specialized psychiatric treatment. As a board-certified PMHNP-BC through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, my clinical background ensures safe, precise, and evidence-based medication management. I pair this clinical precision with a conversational, real-world therapeutic approach at my practice, Cascadia Mind Care. Pulling from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused, and Interpersonal therapies, I work collaboratively with my clients to clarify their minds, ease burnout, and create practical action plans. Driven by a passion for promoting health equity, I provide an intentionally inclusive space for gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, queer, and intersex individuals, as well as folks navigating HIV/AIDS, trauma, men's issues, and first-responder stressors. By combining safe medical oversight with genuine, direct talk, I strive to dismantle the barriers to quality psychiatric care that LGBTQ+ individuals frequently face. I currently provide both in-person and secure virtual psychiatric services for individuals residing in Oregon, accepting most major insurers (including OHP) to keep care highly accessible.
