Kayla Perry
I am a licensed social worker in the state of Connecticut with nine years of experience in social work and human services, but found my niche in providing gender affirming mental healthcare over three years ago. Thanks for being here; I feel so inspired by your bravery. It's a privilege and honor to bear witness to others' growth process, and I'm excited to grow together. I operate from a non-oppressive, liberatory lens, and together we can grapple with the hard questions: What does it mean to exist under capitalism? How have we been traumatized by systems of oppression? How can we kill the cop in our head? How can we normalize rest and self-compassion in a world that is inherently violent? My passion is to serve my working class comrades: the multi-racial, multi-gendered, transnational individuals who make the world run, and who are traumatized in the process. My approach is collaborative and person-centered, and I practice from the position that YOU are the expert on your own existence. As a queer, transracial/transnational adoptee, I center the impact of assimilation, cultural loss, alienation, and the dissonance of holding multiple intersectional identities. I am keenly aware of privilege, and committed to rejecting Western psychology, white supremacy, and power imbalances in the therapist/participant relationship. I believe in bell hooks' theory of love as "investment in spiritual growth" -- what does your growth look like? What does psychological and emotional liberation feel like? How can I support you in achieving all of this? Let's find out together.
