Lily Van Tongeren
Dr. Lily Van Tongeren (“Dr. Lily”) (she/her) is a board-certified family medicine physician and gender health provider at UCLA Health, where she completed fellowship training in LGBTQ+ Healthcare. A Los Angeles native, she brings both deep community roots and specialized clinical expertise to her work. Dr. Lily proudly describes herself as a “body autonomist,” centering patient agency, autonomy, and joy in healthcare. Her clinical practice spans gender-affirming care, sexual and reproductive health, STI/HIV prevention and treatment, adolescent medicine, and trauma-informed pelvic care. She has advanced procedural training in high-resolution anoscopy for anal cancer screening and pre-cancer treatment, and is committed to providing inclusive, affirming care for LGBTQIA+ patients. She earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine and completed her family medicine residency at Cooper University Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident and Clinical Instructor. She was honored with the 2025 Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Resident Teacher Award for her leadership in advancing LGBTQIA+ cultural competency in medical education. Dr. Lily takes a weight-neutral, evidence-based approach to care and is passionate about prevention—including vaccinations and accessible, patient-centered contraceptive care. She offers in-office procedures such as IUD placement using a multimodal pain management approach designed to prioritize comfort and autonomy. Outside of clinic, you can find her at a reformer Pilates class, working on ceramics, catching a movie, or spending time with her community.
