Megan Goettsches
The name of my practice, With You, pays homage to a sport I have played for 20+ years which has probably saved my life on several occasions. On the rugby pitch, we let our teammates know they have support by shouting "With You". It lets them know that whatever happens on the pitch, their teammate is behind them to protect and support them. This phrase is ubiquitous off the pitch as well; it lets those around us know that we are here to support. When I developed my own private practice, I could think of nothing more appropriate to name it. I utilize a strengths-based person-centered intersectional approach to therapy that centers identities against the backdrop of social structures that, at times can be liberating and joyous, and at other times be oppressive and discriminatory. I work with individuals experiencing issues relating to substance use, gender identity, orientation, body image, trauma, and grief, to name a few. I incorporate EMDR and parts work into my approach, all under the umbrella of queerness. When I am not being a therapist, I am teaching Gender Studies at College of Charleston, coaching (and playing for) an inclusive 2SLGBTQIA+ rugby team, and engaging in liberatory activism.
