She/Her

Hello! My name is Dr. Megan Pellacani (she/her) and I am a physical therapist that specializes in treating the pelvic floor and associated issues. I have a patient for creating a safe environment for the LGBTQ+ community, allowing my patients to be their true and authentic selves, while also working with them to solve the root cause of any pelvic floor symptoms they are having in an affirming way. Pelvic floor dysfunction can include any urinary, bowel, or sexual dysfunction that is outside of the realms of normal - such as frequent or infrequent urination, urinary leakage, constipation, abdominal pain, low back and hip pain, tailbone pain, unwanted pain with intercourse, pain with arousal and/or orgasm, erectile dysfunction, among many others! Pelvic floor dysfunction is not specific to any specific gender, as everyone with a pelvis has a pelvic floor - and could possibly suffer from any of the symptoms mentioned above. Additionally, pelvic floor physical therapy can play a vital role in people undergoing gender affirming pelvic surgeries. I work with my patients prior to surgery when possible to create a "pre-hab" program for them to improve their post-operative healing and surgical outcomes by helping them connect with their breath and their pelvic floor and also ensuring the bowel/bladder/sexual function is optimal. Then we re-visit post-op to get them on the path to healing with gentle exercise and stretching to ensure the best possible post-surgical outcomes such as maintaining vaginal depth and width for a vaginoplasty, or decreasing scar tissue restriction and muscular tension for phalloplastys, zero-depth vaginoplastys, and nullification procedures. I have taken several courses through different platforms including the Pelvic Global Academy - Pelvic Therapy for Gender Affirming Vaginoplasty and Transgender Health for the Rehab Professional; Social, Medical, and Chest Surgery Considerations, the American Physical Therapy Association's course of Pelvic Floor 2A, and Alcove's course of Diving into the Pelvic Floor when I first started practicing. I always make sure to keep learning by reading as much research and watching/listening to as many webinars that I can to stay up to date on how to better serve this community. My passion is to help people through my skills and education as a pelvic floor physical therapist, and I would be honored to be on your team.
