My Name

I am a queer and trans therapist who is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado. I offer in-person outdoor work in Fort Collins, CO, and Telehealth for folks residing anywhere in the State of Colorado. Please check out my website for more information about the work I do and reach out if you want to schedule a free initial consultation. My website is https://www.softeningstonepsychotherapy.com My primary practice focus is on providing culturally responsive care to LGBTQIA+ folks, namely at the intersection of other identities/experiences (trauma, etc.). I have additional specialties in reconciling & redefining masculinity, exploring our privileged identities/experiences as people who also experience marginalization around a separate identity/experience, and wilderness therapy. I am a member and co-organizer of the Colorado Trans and Nonbinary Therapist Network and receive regular consultation from other LGBTQIA+ providers on LGBTQIA+ treatment. Further, I follow social media and networking groups in which I continuously work to learn more about the unique experiences of LGBTQIA+ folks with particular treatment concerns (e.g. intersection of gender-affirming care and eating disorder treatment). I have gone to many trainings over the last 15+ years, and primarily sought LGBTQIA+ focused training from LGBTQIA+ people, prioritizing lived experience. A good amount of my work outside of my private practice client work has been on making space for LGBTQIA+ folks in mental health care and other environments that overlap with my specialties. Although I have experience working in LGBTQIA+ specific spaces and receiving further training from mentors and supervisors there, my primary work has been helping organizations, practices, facilities, and other environments that are not LGBTQIA+ specific better serve their LGBTQIA+ clients, students, and other shareholders. For instance, I have supported residential substance abuse treatment facilities become more culturally competent in the intersection of LGBTQIA+ experience and substance use/abuse (especially unique factors to consider in best serving LGBTQIA+ folks struggling with substance abuse). Additionally, I have developed curriculums and programs for substance use disorder treatment facilities to offer LGBTQIA+ individuals when needing to shift away from binary-gendered models and/or 12-step focused treatment. Additionally, my primary specialty is the intersection of LGBTQIA+ experience and interpersonal trauma, especially sexual violence, intimate partner abuse, family of origin abuse or neglect, abandonment or rejection in response to identity, and hate crimes. I train health care providers (mental health and medical alike), educators, human resource professionals, advocates and victim service providers, and many others on this intersection.
