Roy Rivera

Dr. Roy Rivera Jr., PT, PhD, DPT, MCHES, is a licensed physical therapist and owner of Elation Physical Therapy in Houston and Pearland, Texas. There are also Elation Physical Therapy locations in both Cypress and Katy, Texas. Working across a variety of health care settings, Dr. Rivera has a philosophy and interest in helping people reach or return to their peak physical conditions in the face of physiological setbacks. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in biology at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, Dr. Rivera went on to earn his Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Dr. Rivera continued his education at the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah, completing his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). He then went on to earn his Doctor of Philosophy in health studies at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. Dr. Rivera is also a master-certified health education specialist. He’s a professional member of the American Physical Therapy Association — Private Practice Section, the Texas Physical Therapy Association, and the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. Focusing on creating an inclusive and open healthcare environment, Dr. Rivera wrote the book “Shantay, You Stay: A Healthcare Provider’s Guide to LGBT+ Inclusive Practices.” Dr. Rivera is a finish line emergency medical team volunteer at the Chevron Houston Marathon and board member at Out for Education, a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to LGBTQIA+ youth from the Houston area or attending college or universities in Houston. In his free time, Dr. Rivera dedicates himself to athletics and understands the demands that sports and other physical activities have on the human body. He routinely participates in cardiovascular and resistive strength training and plays competitive men’s tennis.
