Sara Burchfiel

I’m a queer-affirming depth therapist who works with people seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that shape their lives. My approach is compassionate, relational, and grounded in the belief that healing isn’t about becoming someone different—it’s about becoming more fully yourself. I specialize in working with eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, and trauma. I understand these struggles not simply as symptoms to eliminate, but as meaningful adaptations that often develop in response to experiences, relationships, environments, and unmet needs. Together, we can explore what your symptoms may be communicating while building safer and more supportive ways of moving through the world. As a depth-oriented therapist, I’m interested in the layers beneath the surface: the stories you’ve inherited, the roles you’ve learned to inhabit, the parts of yourself you may have had to hide, and the ways past experiences continue to influence the present. Trauma-informed and identity-affirming care means making space for your whole experience, including the intersections of gender, sexuality, body, culture, relationships, and identity. I especially value creating a therapy space where queer and trans clients don’t have to explain, defend, or minimize who they are. Whether you’re navigating an eating disorder, recovering from trauma, questioning old patterns, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, therapy can be a place to slow down, become curious, and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
