Susan Hyde
Reaching out to a therapist for support can feel scary and intimidating for anyone. It takes courage, humility, and a strong desire to grow. For LGBTQ+ folks, it takes the added effort of finding a provider who is safe, affirming and accepting. In our work together, you will be put at ease with kindness and respected for who you are and the strength it took to become you. We'll work together toward your goals, which for many of my clients means coping with stress and life transitions, reducing anxiety, coming out, navigating non-affirming families, building healthy relationships, navigating grief, or making the next right decision for your life. We will use various approaches tailored to your needs, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-based calming skills, life skills, creativity, common-sense problem solving and a little humor to lighten things up along the way. A unique interest of mine is working with ‘culture straddlers’...folks who have a significant difference in identity or way of life from their family of origin. Think rural to urban, blue-collar to college graduate, evangelical to agnostic, having immigrant parents and so on. I am a culture straddler in several of these ways and understand many of the complexities in it. You are not alone. I am also passionate about supporting other healthcare providers and mental health professionals and empowering women through various life transitions in their 20's, 30's, and 40's. A note about my scope of practice: I work exclusively via telehealth with adults 18 years and older located in Texas. Everyone deserves to get the help they need even if I can’t provide it. I urge persons with suicidal thoughts, self-harming behaviors, thoughts of harming others, psychosis, active eating disorders, or active substance abuse to seek in-person services at larger, multi-discipline clinics which have access to doctors, therapists, social workers, nurses and emergency resources. I am happy to offer resources if needed.
