Thilini Weerakkody
I am a somatically informed therapist who specializes in trauma, dissociation, and chronic illnesses, especially in people with BIPOC, Queer, and marginalized identities. Trauma causes the nervous system to become stuck in a state of fight, flight, or dissociation. These states used to keep you alive and safe, but the body is trapped in them, contributing to issues with sleep, digestion, memory, focus, fatigue and even the immune system. Together, we will work to reduce the cortisol flooding in your body and improve your mental and physical health while giving you a deep symbolic and scientific understanding of your mind. I use psychobiology to break down the mysticism and overwhelm around our minds and physical reactions. Psychoanalysis is equipped to help you find meaning and awareness of your thoughts, behaviors, and beliefs. Additionally, we will work to calm your nervous system using somatic release, bilateral stimulation, and polyvagal techniques. You are built to heal, to love, and to be more than your survival. I am a guide in helping you reconnect to your innate wisdom. My work is soft, gentle, and sensitive. I want us to meet as people and not just a clinician and patient. I hope I will have the honor of being a part of your journey, and if not, I am so glad you are on it and I wish you the best.
