Tyler Reese
Tyler Reese, MD, AAHIVS, grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and pursued his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Public Health at The Ohio State University, where he developed his interest in addiction medicine and public health as an HIV/STI test counselor. Dr. Reese received his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado as a member of its renowned Primary Care Track at Denver Health Medical Center. Dr. Reese completed his Addiction Medicine fellowship at Rush University Medical Center and is an AAHIVM HIV Specialist. Dr. Reese was the recipient of an NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute T35 Research Grant for his published work in obesity and global public health. Dr. Reese also co-authored the first published case report of an outbreak of medetomidine-associated opioid overdoses in Chicago, Illinois, in May 2024. Dr. Reese is currently serving as a Sub-Investigator for Merck’s Phase 3 EXPrESSIVE-11 trial (MK-8527-011, NCT 07044297) evaluating the efficacy and safety of MK-8527 oral once-monthly as HIV-1 Preexposure Prophylaxis. Dr. Reese was awarded the 2025 Ruth Fox Scholarship and the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s AMAC Scholarship in recognition of his addiction advocacy and policy work. Dr. Reese currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago, where he serves on the Addiction Consult Team and as a clinician as part of UIC’s School of Public Health Community Outreach Intervention Projects.
